Romsey Abbey Charity Lunchtime Recital in Support of Ukraine

Romsey Abbey are delighted to announce that the celebrated Ukrainian concert pianist Ivan Hovorun will give a Lunchtime Recital in Romsey Abbey on Tuesday May 17th at 1.00pm.

This is a return visit to the Abbey for Ivan and many will remember his outstanding performance in 2021. When invited to return this year Ivan said “I have pleasant memories about Romsey and your very lovely public!


Ivan’s programme will be:

Ludwig van Beethoven (17 December 1770- 26 March 1827)

Sonata No. 14 C sharp minor, Op. 27, no. 2, "Moonlight"

Felix Mendelssohn (3 February 1809 – 4 November 1847)

Variations Serieuses Op. 54

Fryderyk Chopin (1 March 1810 – 17 October 1849)

Franz Liszt (22 October 1811-31 July 1886)

Ivan’s visit to Romsey in May was arranged before the invasion of his home country. Since then, he has been actively supporting relief charities by giving recitals to raise funds. The proceeds from this recital will be donated by Romsey Abbey to UNICEF Ukraine Appeal.

Admission is free and there will be a retiring collection and the opportunity to enhance your donation using Gift Aid.


Seating will be first come, first served so do please arrive in good time as we are expecting a large audience. The Recital will begin at 1.00pm and last for just under an hour.


Ivan Hovorun is forging a reputation as one of the most acutely perceptive and insightfully intelligent musicians of our time.

Born in Ukraine, Mr Hovorun’s piano studies began with his mother, herself a talented professional musician, at the age of five and at the age of six went on to study at the Krushelnytska Music High School.

Ivan Hovorun first performed for the public of his native city at the age of nine. He was only eleven when he first performed with a full orchestra, since when he has been invited to perform annually with the Lvov Symphony Orchestra.

Mr Hovorun chose to pursue his higher musical studies in England, having been awarded a scholarship in 2004 to study at the Royal Northern College of Music, from which he graduated with a Master of Music degree in 2011.
